In the context of reinforcing safety measures and ensuring a smooth loading and unloading procedure on board Attica Group vessels, primarily with regard to the safety and protection of all those on board, we wish to remind you that all measures must be fully adhered. These include, but are not limited to, the prohibition of passengers’ (including drivers) entry into the garage before the vessel is safely moored and the prohibition of truck movement until passengers have cleared the baggage area and generally the garage area.
To ensure the above and to avoid any accidents during the loading and unloading process, drivers and those with any kind of work in the loading and unloading areas (garage) or near the vessel’s ramp are requested to -
- Follow the crew’s instructions
- Wear high-visibility vests (fluorescent safety vests) upon entering the vessel and for as long as they are on board performing their tasks
- Inform the crew of any vehicle problem
- Check before entering the vessel that the goods are properly tied and secured to avoid shifting
- Not to enter the garage areas and being crowded at the entrance with other drivers, if it is not their turn to unload the vehicle
- Not to start their vehicles unless instructed and accompanied by a crew member (more specifically, to wait for the garage staff to guide them to the parking space upon entry and exit from the vessel should also be done with the presence and guidance of the garage staff)
- Not to smoke within the garage area
- Maintain low speeds within the garages
- Follow the tractor coupling-decoupling procedures with particular care and always apply the handbrake when immobilizing the vehicle and getting off the tractor to couple the trailer
- Stop any vehicle movement when they see passengers or crew members in the garage or on the vessel’s ramp
- Take into consideration that henceforth, if there are suspicions of alcohol use, the Master of the vessel will request a breathalyzer test from the Port Authority
- It is also recommended that, the tractors at least, are equipped with a loud reversing alarm and a (removable) beacon on the roof of the tractor.
Finally, we emphasize that it is particularly important to inform all drivers you cooperate with, regarding the content of this letter.
We kindly ask you to comply with the above and we remain at your disposal for any further clarification. Thank you for your cooperation.
